his silent) comes from a small farm in Skiptvet, about 60km South-East of Oslo, Norway. The origin of the name is unknown, but probably refers to a
valley bottom. There are other Bothner families in Norway, but we don't seem to be related to them. There are also unrelated Bothner families in France and Germany. Bothner Gmbh is
a long standing German company producing gears and gearboxes; the Bothner gearbox line has been acquired by Dutch Clutch.
